From a young age, my brothers and I were raised with the understanding that diligence within a chosen endeavor was the best way to pursue it. I did well in academics but struggled to grasp the fullness of this truth until I graduated college and took a summer job as a carpenter.

After a summer of working with my hands, I began to better understand what my parents meant. The reward of engaging and intertwining the mind and body in the repetition and growth of skills, techniques, and knowledge resonated with me in a way nothing had before. I’ve continued over the years to expand on my knowledge of craftsmanship and the skills necessary for the work. This naturally evolved from general carpentry to finish carpentry, custom cabinetry, and now furniture making.

As my understanding of the furniture-making process grows I also feel my own creative voice developing, piece by piece being refined and sculpted. Taking the time to better understand how the grain may best speak to the piece as a whole, and how moving lines, offsets, and negative space can come together to bring balance and elegance are all elements of the design and build process that stretch my creative voice. It’s a process under constant refinement, but one whose journey has so far proven to be a joy.

Furniture making, as with most good things, is a craft best shared with others. I want my work to find its place within the life of a home. A place where it can add beauty and utility as each passing year leaves its marks and memories in the grain. I strive to incorporate design and craftsmanship that will endure a lifetime, and always seek to handle my work with the utmost care and respect as I put a piece of myself into every piece of furniture I make.

I hope you’ll come along on this journey with me!
